Anybody have this?

They showed it on PBS last weekend and I did notice unseen footage (by me)
in the opening segments. A different camera angle from the Marque Club (?)
and part of "Stone Free" from I don't know where.

The Monterey show looked pretty much the same as what I already have, the
Douglas produced film "Jimi Plays Monterey."

My question is this: The DVD says you can view different (all?) camera
angles. Can you REALLY?? I mean, it looks like five or six cameras were
rolling for "Killing Floor" but did each one capture the entire song or just
short snippets? How much balcony footage is there? (they use two short
snippets later in the show) I'd like to see the whole show from that angle.

yes, I know there isn't any footage of "Can You See Me" and most of "Purple
Haze."

And the audio sounds the same, too. If it's an 8-track recording, what is on
each track? Can't the bass drum be turned up some? And this may be
blasphemous, but the guitar and vocal need to be lowered a pinch, or at
least bring the drums up more.

Yeah, it was reissued a few months ago by EH with archival footage and
alternate camera angles. I forget where "Stone Free" was from, but it made
the rounds on YouTube and certain fan sites well before the release of the
DVD.

Whether it's worth the purchase is a subjective choice. I've already pissed
someone off here about making purchases of things that are otherwise
available and are of like or better quality.

There are more tight shots. There are more Noel and Mitch shots. There are
more wide shots, such as Jimi's roll on the floor on "Wild Thing". The
footage from "Purple Haze" is more complete. The thing is that the
alternate footage is generally not of the quality of the officially released
Pennebaker film. I've not spent a lot of time with it, but I doubt that
*all* camera angles were used -- rather, certain camera angles were replaced
with others. So, if you already have _AFAJH_ VHS/DVD or _AFAJH Deluxe_DVD
or the VHS _Jimi Plays Monterey_ or the DVD _The Complete Monterey Pop
Festival_ or the DVD _Shout! - Otis Redding & The Jimi Hendrix Experience_,
there's really nothing new other than the "American Landing" documentary,
the Marquee Club and "Stone Free".

The audio is the same as the Alan Douglas, except that it's in 5.1 surround.
The video's better in that it's now widescreen.

Okay! Thanks for the info!

So it's not like you can watch all of the film from one camera by itself, if
I understand you correctly. And the quality may be lacking as well. And it's
not the whole show.

It's obvious there wasn't any communication between the cameramen back then.
Some shots are great but other times the zooms ruin it. And the constant
switching of angles gives me a headache.

That was my main beef with the Woodstock video. Many shots are just too
close and they never, or rarely, leave it on one camera for long. (If you
look at SSB on "Woodstock" director's cut they only use one camera angle for
the entire song! Hard to believe but it's true!)

Last time we communicated here I hadn't seen the second disc, "A Closer
Look." Well, I have now. The B & W video is much better even though the
quality is just so-so, although not bad considering the date. But at least
it doesn't make my head spin by changing angles every five seconds. One
thing I did notice is it appears he took it off of the tripod about half way
through. They don't use nearly as much in the second half and when they do
it's handheld. Handheld shots can be good but you've got to keep it steady.
He doesn't. It's too bad because I did like the first half.

Anyway, I'll probably pass on "American Landing." For now anyway, even
though it's only 13-15 dollars.

Jimi had dirt under his fingernails at Woodstock.
My wife was kind enough to point that out.
