Discussion:
JIMI HENDRIX RECORDING DATES ?
(too old to reply)

If you know of a website that lists the exact recording
dates for each song on the first three Jimi Hendrix
albums, please post a link to it in this thread.

Whenever I'm burning compact discs of my favorite
songs by a musical artist, I like to arrange them in
chronological order by when they were created rather
than in the original running sequence of the albums
on which they first appeared. Some labels show
consideration to serious collectors by including this
information in the liner notes, but unfortunately many
do not.

Thanks in advance.

I thought he was great on your show, apart from the tuning problems. :)

All the best,

I see someone else has provided a recommendation.

I can understand that you want to arrange songs in chronological order, but
I would have thought that is pretty difficult in the case of songs that are
subject to several overdubs on different dates and even in different
recording studios. For example, if the backing track is recorded on one day,
then the vocals recorded days or weeks later, and then overdubs done even
later, what date constitutes the "chronological" date? To pre-empt your
answer, I would say the date the track was finalised. But other tracks may
have been recorded during that same period and in various states of
completion, so putting in album in chronological order is probably not as
simple (in cases like that) as it seems.

Having got an iPod Nano for Christmas, I've been creating all sorts of
playlists using different criteria. The "Jimi Albums in Order" playlist is
particularly good, with all the albums in release order; there's also "Jimi
Hendrix - Singles" which is all the A sides of the UK hit singles (I must do
one for the B sides). Great fun, and great listening!

"Sessions" has been somewhat obsolete since mere months after
publication, when the Chas Tapes came to light. McDermott himself had
even noted this, but no updated, corrected edition has as yet
warranted printing.

As Martin alludes to, maybe we'll never really get it all
'definitively' pinned down, 40+ years on.

Don't neglect this resource---

as being part of your arsenal, though.
